Laurie Moore is an Acoustic/Electric Bassist, Composer, Arranger and Educator from Glasgow, Scotland. He comes from a long line of musicians, being the 4th generation of bass player in his family.
Laurie started playing double bass and electric bass at 13 after his uncle Alex Moore lent him some instruments while he was out on tour. Laurie’s work ethic meant he passed his audition to study for a bachelor of music at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland at just 15 and was already gigging professionally by 16 ,working at late night jazz clubs and festivals in and around Scotland.
He started his bachelor studies in 2018 at the ripe age of 16 on the highly competitive jazz course at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (consistently ranked as a world top 10 institution for music and performing arts, QS World University Rankings). He studied performance, improvisation, harmony, composition, arranging, ear training, repertoire, music business and much more with many esteemed professors such as Scottish Saxophonist Dr Tommy Smith OBE (Chick Corea, Jaco Pastorius), Brazilian Bassist Mario Caribe (Scottish National Jazz Orchestra,Kenny Wheeler), Manchester born Pianist Paul Harrison(Chris Potter, Bobby Watson) and American percussionist Dr Steve Forman (Pink Floyd, David Bowie). Many performance opportunities included performing with Natasha Bedingfield (5+ billion streams on Spotify)at the 2021 United Nations COP Climate Conference in Glasgow as well as collaborating with students from across Europe as part of the European Jazz Workshop.
After leaving the conservatoire in Glasgow, Laurie decided to dip his toes into the cruise industry and performed in a wide array of settings including Reading gigs, Party Bands and Jazz Trios. His work on P&O Cruises saw him perform cabaret style shows for guest artists such as Kerry Ellis(Sir Brian May,Wicked), Faye Tozer(Steps), Kevin Simm(Wet Wet Wet, The Voice UK Winner 2016), La Voix(Ru Paul’s Drag Race UK, Strictly Come Dancing), Sam Bailey (X-Factor winner 2013),Jenna Lee James(Frozen,We Will Rock You), Andy Abraham(Eurovision,X-Factor),
He worked briefly for Holland America Line as part of their in-house jazz trio and then went on to work with one of the biggest entertainment companies in the world: Disney, as part of their Victrophonics and Little Mermaid shows onboard Disney Cruise Line
Laurie has been gained recognition for his work by being nominated for the Rising Star Award at the 2022 Scottish Jazz Awards and reaching the final of the 2024 BBC Radio Scotland Young Jazz Musician
He has also studied privately with 4x GRAMMY® award winning electric and acoustic bassist John Patitucci as well as leading New York based educators Marco Panascia (Jazz/Broadway Legend) and Alex Claffy (Kurt Rosenwinkel/Joey DeFrancesco)
His professional work in the jazz world has seen him perform with the vast majority of the Scottish jazz scene and has been a long time collaborator with the likes of Marianne McGregor(Best Vocalist Scottish Jazz Awards 2021,2023) and Bill Wells(Inaugural Winner of the Scottish Album of the Year Award 2011,National Jazz Trio of Scotland). He has also worked with bands such as Acid Jazz Records signed and Jazz FM award nominees Mama Terra, this included sold out performances at the likes of Ronnie Scotts’s and Pizza Express jazz clubs in London as well as recording live shows for Jazz FM and BBC Radio Scotland. Other performance credits in the jazz scene include the likes of Brian Kellock, Dave Newton, Matt Carmichael, Colin Steele, Max Popp, Paul Harrison, Fergus McCreadie, Conor Smith ,Ben MacDonald, Steve Hamilton, Malcolm MacFarlane, Seonaid Aitken, Konrad Wiszniewski, Ali Affleck and many more… Festival appearances include the likes of Glasgow Jazz Festival, Edinburgh Jazz Festival, Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival ,Aberdeen Jazz Festival, Leith Jazz Festival, Bute Manouche, Langton Jazz Festival, Biggar Django Festival and others…
Laurie’s work as a composer and arranger has seen him write and arrange music for the National Youth Pipe Band of Scotland (23/24 Emerging Composers Project) as well as arranging classic house tunes for shows at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival (House Music Live). He has also performed his own compositions live on BBC Radio Scotland as part of the 2024 BBC Radio Scotland Young Jazz Musician of the Year Award.
